Carlsbad Resorts: Fun Ways to Spend Thanksgiving

The Thanksgiving holiday weekend is known as the beginning of the holiday season.  While Thanksgiving Thursday is an enjoyable day of thanks, the next three days can be packed full of relaxing fun or exciting adventures. Here is how to kick off the holidays San Diego style with beautiful weather and at the best Carlsbad resorts.  Whether you are an out of town guest or a local these are some of the best adventures around.

Family Fun Run at Del Mar Racetrack

On Thursday, November 28th, join in for some pre-turkey fun at an event for the entire family.  Take a one-mile loop around the famous Del Mar Racetrack.  You will begin at the actual starting gate and finish in the winners’ circle where you get your picture taken.  Del Mar jockeys will be there taking the lap around with you.

Participants will get donuts, hot chocolate, fun run t-shirt.  Stay after the race for games, face painting, entertainment, and animal interactions.

Oceanside’s 14th Annual Turkey Trot 5k

Not far from Carlsbad resorts will be the Oceanside Annual Turkey Trot.  There will be races for everyone whether you are an avid runner or would prefer to walk.  The races start at 6:45 am, so there is plenty of time to run and be back for Thanksgiving turkey.  The race begins at the civic center and finishes at the Oceanside Pier along the beach.  It is a popular tradition with locals and tourists alike.

Holidays at Legoland

Just a short drive from the Carlsbad resorts is Legoland California.  From the end of November thru December 31st, the park will be in full holiday mode.  Lego Santa and the Toy Solider will be back and they are bringing a new character this year, The Gingerbread Man.  Get your hugs and pictures in front of the 30-foot fully decorated holiday tree.  Enjoy a holiday light show every night and all the fun rides and entertainment.  Perfect for the entire family.

Enjoy San Diego’s Only Beachfront Ice Rink

San Diego’s iconic Hotel Del opens Skating by the Sea.  It partially benefits the Wish Kids served by Make-A-Wish San Diego.

Enjoy the stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and Coronado beach.  Enjoy holiday music, hot chocolate, and food.  There are firepits and seating so adults can enjoy a relaxing time while the kids skate away.

Plenty of Black Friday Shopping

One great place to get some Black Friday shopping done is at the Carlsbad Outlets.  Near Carlsbad resorts and around the corner from Legoland, you can enjoy a quick bite and get in those killer deals.

If you have the kids with you, make an appointment for your child at the Santa Photo Experience.  Not only will you get an amazing photo, but they will get to have a quick conversation with Santa.

Shop Small in Carlsbad Village

On Saturday, enjoy the 10th Annual Holiday Shopping tradition that brings the community together to support small businesses in North County.  Holiday music will be playing, specials, discounts, and small-town hospitality will be felt by all.

Stay until early evening and enjoy the musical kickoff to the holidays with cheer.  There will be caroling and the Carlsbad High School Jazz Ensemble will be performing beginning at 4 pm.  Enjoy hot chocolate and cookies on a perfect San Diego night.   The best part is that you can walk from the resort beachside and take in the ocean view.

College Football Live!

Many Americans enjoy watching football during the holiday weekend.  However, in San Diego, we are lucky to have the chance to go to a college game.  The San Diego State Aztecs will be playing BYU at the SDCUU stadium in San Diego.  Get tickets and enjoy an evening of football.
