There are so many local attractions when visiting Carlsbad beach resorts that there is plenty to do when vacationing.  However, there are also many exciting annual festivals and events that are worth planning a trip around.  Southern California not only has the most amazing beaches and gorgeous mild weather it is a fun go-to destination.

Carlsbad Full & Half Marathon

Do you have New Year’s Resolutions to fulfill? The most scenic marathon and half marathon along the gorgeous coastline is a great way to get some fitness in on a holiday weekend.  To point out its Martin Luther King Holiday weekend.

Swag is included in the registration – a long sleeve shirt, a ¼ sip pullover jacket, cinch bag, and a finisher’s medal.  After the race enjoy the beer garden and a health and lifestyle expo.  A fun weekend event for all including a Kids Marathon Mile at Legoland.

The race starts at The Shoppes of Carlsbad and onto Highway 101 down to La Costa and back to Carlsbad.  Which is all within walking distance of Carlsbad beach resorts.

Local Farmers Markets

Strolling down a scenic street in Southern California, minutes from the ocean.  Shop local with specifically organic and support small businesses.  The local farmer’s markets in San Diego offer produce, baked goods flowers, arts and crafts, seafood, live entertainment, kid’s areas, face painting, and live entertainment.

  • Carlsbad Village State Street Farmers Market – Wednesday 3-6 pm. On State St between Carlsbad Village Dr and Grand Avenue
  • Oceanside Morning Market– Thursday 9 am-1 pm. Coast Hwy and Pier View Way
  • Oceanside Sunset Market – Thursday 5-9 pm. Pier View Way and Tremont Ave
  • Leucadia Famers Market – Sunday 10 am-2 pm. at Paul Ecke Central School in Encinitas
  • Solana Beach Farmers Market – Sunday 12-4 pm. On the corner of Rosa St and Cerritos Ave in Solana Beach.

San Diego Brew Festival

The 8th annual San Diego Beer Fest returns to Liberty Station, promising a fun-filled day with beer, food trucks, and music.  The festival will feature 70 Breweries some local to the San Diego scene as well as international craft beers.

The festival will take place on January 11th from 1-4 pm downtown at the historic Liberty Station.   Relax on the Coaster train from Carlsbad beach resorts to downtown and then back.

Mission San Luis Rey

Saturday afternoons at 1 pm take a behind the scenes tour with History College Professor Brad Byrom and learn historical facts.  The tour is 75 minutes and allows visitors to see areas not normally open to the public such as the pepper tree and private rose garden.  For this reason, take in some historical culture of the Old Mission San Luis Rey.

Celebrate the Year of the Rat and the Chinese New Year

International Cottages Balboa Park are historic cottages from 1935 that promote multicultural growth and understanding through educational and cultural programs.  With 34 houses that represent different countries is it a surprisingly fun showcase from many lands.

The House of China will be hosting a Chinese New Year’s Festival event.  The celebration will be on Saturday, January 25th and Sunday, January 26th from 11 am-5 pm.  Enjoy Lion Dances, Cultural Performances, Crafts Calligraphy, and traditional Chinese food.  2020 is the year of the rat, signifying the first in the Chinese zodiac cycle.  Learn more about the culture and find your zodiac sign.
